London Unveiled

great places to visit off the beaten path.

Honeywood Museum at Carshalton Ponds

Two main reasons draw people to Honeywood Museum, located in a Grade II listed building at the western end of Carshalton Ponds.  Either an interest in the history of the area, going back to the Bronze age, as it now houses the Sutton Borough Council Museum, or an interest in learning more about the Edwardian lifestyle.

At its earliest the building dates from the 17th century but has been much extended and restored, particularly in the period 1896 to 1903.  The earliest surviving part of the house is a small chalk and flint chequer-work building which is incorporated into the centre of the present house.   A significant restoration and facilities improvement programme was just completed as of May 2012 with funds from the National Lottery & Local Council.

Restoration:  The house has been restored to show how it would have looked when it was a family home. The Edwardian era billiards room, drawing room, bathroom and kitchen will let visitors step into the past and see for themselves how the residents of Honeywood would have lived.  Within the house the exhibitions change throughout the year. Various activities and special events are organized throughout the year, targeted at both children and adults.  On site there is a newly refurbished shop and a tea room.  Admission is free.  For more information go to the following website: http://www.friendsofhoneywood.co.uk/

Museum & tea shop opening hours:  Wed - Fri 11am - 5pm; Sat, Sun and Bank Holiday Mondays - 10am - 5pm.
